The world is really sucking for everyone right now, but especially for two types of people: brides and small business owners. A lot of my brides have been telling me lately that they’re struggling to be excited about their weddings due to COVID-19 throwing a wrench in plans and also because it just doesn’t feel right given everything going on. Well first of all let me tell one very important thing: you do NOT have to feel guilty for being happy right now! You still get to celebrate and the people who love you are still going to celebrate with you. However, if you’re still feeling guilty being excited about the future when so many are struggling, then try doing good where you can!
Giving gifts to your bridesmaids while also spending your money at small business during a time when their economy is struggling is like three wins in one. Check out this super fun gift guide to #SaveSmallBusiness while showing your bridal party some love and getting amped for your big day all at the same time!
Below you’ll find a list of some of my favorite items that are from small business owners, boss ladies, and basically all around amazing gifts that any bridesmaid is sure to love.
If you know me, you know my obsession with plants. When I stumbled across this adorable planter I was wishing I could go back in time and “propose” to my own bridesmaids with it! If you want to shop small and local to Detroit, try buying your plants from Goldner Walsh, Eastern Market or The Rust Belt Market! They are my all time favorite places in the metro area for getting my green babies.
For your bridesmaid who is getting way too stressed out by all things life or wedding, gift her this Adrenal Recovery supplement from Organic Olivia. Not only is it immune boosting which is great for current events, but it also full of adaptogens which are so great for anyone feeling burnt out. I love all of Organic Olivia’s products. They are both pretty to look at and a super thoughtful, useful gift!
This woman-owned, ethically sourced rose petal company makes the perfect gift for a bridesmaid who loves loose-leaf tea, self-care, and even baking! Brewed as a tea, rose petals are a beauty tonic that will have your bestie glowing from the inside out. Put some in a bath kit and your girl has the perfect spa night in. The uses for dried rose petals are endless!
These perfect little wine stickers make popping the question so much fun! The California-based Etsy shop even has size option for large, regular, and mini bottles so you’ve got lots of options. Bonus points if you’re able to score some Traverse City or Michigan wine! Some great metro-Detroit local spots to buy regional wine are Essence on Main in Clarkston and The Royce in Downtown,
Mugs are a classic bridesmaid gift and they’re a classic for a reason: you can never have too many mugs! I might be biased as I say that considering I have a full blown mug collection…but hey, Demi Lovato called it her favorite dish for a reason. This adorable and personalized bridesmaid mug is one of my all time faves. Not only is it gorgeous, but you can have her name engraved on the back! So cute!
This simple, aesthetic candle makes the cutest gift for any bridesmaid! Handmade with soy wax and scented with vanilla, I might just have to buy one for myself…
Gua sha is an ancient skin care and lymphatic drainage method that has been called “nature’s botox”. Combine that high praise along with the symbolize of Rose Quartz for love and friendship, and this affordable little stone makes an amazing gift. Who doesn’t want pampering, stress relief, and anti-aging for a present?
This modern yet classic brass hair accessory is handmade in Philadelphia by an amazing artist! Gift your bestie something beautiful to wear on your big day with this timeless piece.
One of the things I’m missing the most during COVID is getting fancy shmancy drinks from local coffee shops! If your bridesmaid is a coffee-lover like me then I know she would love this gift set! With these amazing beans from Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Co. plus handmade vanilla bean syrup from Dessert Oasis Coffee Co., your bringing the local cafe to her while supporting Detroit favorites. It’ll also help keep her energized during those long days of wedding planning. So just think of it as a gift for her, a gift for the local economy, and a gift for you!
Okay, so your bridesmaid might not be on her daily commute at the moment, but this handmade clay oil diffuser still makes a wonderful gift! She hang it on her WFH station and on her rear view mirror once things go back to normal. If you want to really round out the gift, you could also gift her an essential oil that you think would be perfect for her!
