Valentine’s Day is just a few days away. Over the years it’s slowly become one of my top holidays. What isn’t there to love about a day that’s all about celebrating love?! I’ll be honest with you….I used to view it as “Single’s Awareness Day”, but over the years it’s grown on me. The truth is, Valentine’s day can be a polarizing holiday. If you’re like me, I’ve really come to enjoy it (I mean, a holiday where you celebrate by eating chocolate and literally stopping to smell the flowers?) But I know there’s plenty of people out there who think it’s just a Hallmark holiday to steal more money, or one more reminder of how lonely you actually are. So whether you’re in a relationship or not, here’s 5 ways that you can celebrate Valentine’s Day:
1.) Do a Random Act of Kindness
This is one of my favorites ways to valentine because it can be as much or little effort as you want! Celebrate by doing a random act of kindness! Buy someone a coffee (yes, please), leave a flower on your co-worker’s desk, heck it can be as simple as taking a few seconds to hold the door or a little longer. If you want to go all out, surprise someone with homemade cookies!
2.) Tell Someone How You Really Feel
Remember those little valentines you used to get as a kid? It always had some kind of cheesy pun that rhymed with love? What about if you did a grown-up version (it can still be punny and rhyme!) Take 2 minutes right now to text someone one thing that you admire about them. It’s doesn’t have to be anything super emotional or deep…just tell how you feel. It’ll be sure to brighten their day.
3.) Host a Party for your Gals
Instead of focusing on yourself and your relationship (or lack of), don’t forget to love on your girlfriends! It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant, but then again, it could also look something like this…..I absolutely LOVE this table spread by Arin Solange . It is so pretty, who wouldn’t want to be here?! I love that she shows you how to make your own gorgeous table runner.
4.) Stay Home
Maybe this February, you’re looking for something more chill. Take some time and do the things that you’ve been needing to do like clean your room, organize your desk or scrub your floors. Or you can do the things you’ve been wanting to do like take a bubble bath, paint your nails, and eat these snacks? Self love is more than just pampering yourself….but it can also be pampering yourself
4.) Speak Your Partner’s Love Language
If you haven’t heard of the term “Love Language”, it’s from the book, The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts. Written by Dr. Gary Chapman, he reveals that each of us primarily speaks with one of five love languages: quality time, physical touch, gift giving, acts of service, and words of affirmation. If you’re not sure which one they are, send them to the quiz, here. Then plan some things to speak their language!
5.) Let Go of Your Expectations
Whatever you end up doing, I hope you can find a moment to tell someone you love them.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
