Spring has come to an end and we’re fully into the summer season! Pretty sure I think this every month, but May was such a whirlwind. I think out of all the months this year, May has flown by me the fastest. I had eight photo shoots, four weddings, and so many consultations. Being a photographer isn’t all artsy and glam, at one point I had blisters on the bottoms of both my feet and I still seem to be fighting off my cold from April. Add into all that work busyness, I also went new car shopping (hooray!), a trip to Dallas, and apartment hunting. Believe me when I say that I have been chugging down that good good coffee.
Regardless of all that crazy hustle, Michigan spring is such a relaxing and refreshing period to me. The air is so fresh and despite all the rain this past month, the apple trees in front of my apartment are in full bloom. Opening all my windows while I edit and smelling the breeze brush through the branches has been so calming. Kona has definitely been enjoying some extra time outside with the longer days and my plant babies have been enjoying that extra sunshine too!
I am feeling so optimistic about this upcoming summer. Winter felt so long and it feels so good to finally be soaking up some vitamin D and driving with my windows down. But! Before we transition fully into June, what time is it? Monthly roundup time! Below you’ll find a list of my very favorite parts of the month of May. Writing these posts is such a fun way for me to reflect with gratitude and share some of my favorite things! I hope you find it fun to read and that it inspires you to reflect on all the good things from your past month as well!
It finally came! Back in February, I got an announcement from the Knot informing me that I was voted as one of Detroit’s top wedding vendors. After such a long wait for the physical plaque, it arrived in my mailbox this month! I am so proud and grateful to be able to hang this on my wall. This award means so much to me because the candidates are chosen based on 5-star reviews from real clients, and only the top four percent of wedding vendors are selected. Every time I gaze up at this award hanging on my wall, I am reminded of all my outstanding 2018 brides and grooms! They’re the reason why I do what I do.
Growing up, I was a total tomboy. My hair was almost always in a pixie cut, I loved ripped jeans, high adrenaline sports, and all I wanted to do was be outside. Now that I’m a “grown up”, I’ve embraced my girly side a bit more. My hair is long, my nails are always pink, and I love wearing dresses. Nevertheless, when I saw this camouflage jacket at Nordstrom Rack, my inner tomboy lit right up and I knew I had to have it. As you can see throughout the rest of the photos in this post I pretty much never take this jacket off! Unfortunately, they no longer sell this exact jacket, but I’ve linked some similar ones below!
I had such a blast getting to visit my childhood bestie in her new home in Texas. It was double fun because I was able to photograph her and her husband for a three-year anniversary shoot. I was a bridesmaid in their wedding, so this was a special photoshoot for me. Since I was already in Texas, you know I had to visit Magnolia Market at the Silos, too! While I didn’t have enough time in my trip to make a full day out of it, I still had such a great time walking around, drinking some coffee, and buying an air plant before I had to go catch my flight home.
Belle Isle made it into the roundup because I practically lived there this month. That is not a complaint at all because I actually wish I did live on Belle Isle. It is one of my favorite places in Detroit. There’s such a good energy, so many happy people, and every time I visit I find a new perfect spot. Some fun facts about Belle Isle:
With all the crazy hours I’ve been working with this month, Lush bath bombs have been helping me unwind at night. I bought a wooden pallet board from Michaels, painted some water-resistant stain on it, and made my own bath tray! It’s so perfect for holding my candles and a book while I soak.
A few people I follow online mentioned that their weighted blankets really helped them with their stress levels. So, I thought I’d give it a try and see if it could help with my anxiety too. I went ahead and purchased this one from Amazon and I love it. It’s certainly not a magic elixir that makes all my worries go away, but it definitely helps! Have you ever needed a really big bear hug to help calm you down? It sort of feels like that!
I’ve been growing cacti for years and never once has any of my plants flowered. I don’t know what I’ve been doing differently, but this spring I’ve had my air plant and three different succulents flower! It’s such a fun little surprise every time.
This month, Francisca of Sophia Frances Events and I teamed up to throw a Detroit brunch inspired stylized wedding shoot. The most amazing vendors all came together to make our vision become a reality and I honestly cannot put into words what an phenomenal experience it was. All these vendors brought their A game to the shoot and I am itching to work with them all again in the future. I can’t share any photos from our shoot just yet, but stay tuned!
Something else HUGE has happened this month… but it’s still in the works so stayed tuned for my June Roundup to read all the details!
