Let me start off by saying: I absolutely love Brooke and Ben. I first met this couple when they asked me to photograph their engagement session. Ben is serious, quiet, and a little bit reserved. However, he loves to have a good time and really loves watching his bride have a good time. And Brooke is always having a good time. As a result, anyone around them is automatically having a good time, too. It’s pretty awesome. When they chose the Jam Handy as their wedding venue, it was a perfect match!
The energy of this day was so love-filled, joyful, and happy. I hope every single one of my clients is able to experience a wedding day as elated as this. From Brooke’s infectious laugh, to their families’ unwavering support, to the amazing girl gang of bridesmaids and besties, this sacred ceremony was everything a wedding should be. Not a Pinterest party, not a photo-op, but a lovely, beautiful day celebrating Ben and Brooke’s life-long commitment to each other.
The venue they chose, Jam Handy, is one of those places that takes on the personality of the people who are in it. It has industrial Detroit vibes which makes the perfect canvas for your own unique flair. It also a large enough space to easily fit both Ben and Brooke’s families.
A few mishaps happened on the day of the wedding, but none of the things gone “wrong” could steal the joy and the magic from this day. Brides always ask me “what happens if you get sick?” or “what happens if it starts pouring rain?”. The answers to both of those questions is: you will get gorgeous, treasurable photos. The day before Brooke and Ben’s wedding, I caught a terrible head cold. I packed all kinds of tea, cough drops, tissues, heck if I could figure out how to keep popsicles from melting, I would have brought those too! Luckily, I was able to fake it till I make-ed it and no one even noticed I was sick! So if you have a nagging fear in the back of your mind that your photographer will call out sick, stop worrying… not even the flu can stop me!
As for the rain, Brooke and Ben were such cheerful troopers! Despite everyone trying to convince you that rain on your wedding day is good luck, the truth of the matter is that it still sucks. No, it isn’t a superstitious sign about your marriage, but it is a bit of a letdown. Brooke and Ben took the rain like champs. We grabbed some of my emergency clear-wedding-weather-umbrellas from my trunk, and away we went! Their photos turned out gorgeous and totally captured the love from their day.
To Ben and Brooke, thank you so much for trusting me to capture your big day. I wish you a life full of joy and happiness!
