June has always been and will always be my most favorite month. Of course it helps that it’s my birthday month, but there’s just something that’s so happy about it. It’s officially summertime, the plants are growing, the sun is shining, and the pool is always waiting! The days are longer and all I have to worry about is getting sunburnt! (which is a real concern by the way)
June 2019 was all of these things and so much more, too. So many changes happened to Matt and I during the past month and I can’t wait to share this update with you.
Matt and I moved! Don’t worry though, we’re still in the Metro Detroit area. I’m not going anywhere far away anytime soon! It was a little bittersweet to move out of the townhouse we moved into right after our wedding, but the change was so needed. Our old place had two bedrooms and was two stories, but after binge-watching Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix while editing I had a complete mindset change! That….annnnd the lease being up helped a lot too, but who counts that. Our second bedroom had basically become a giant storage room for stuff we didn’t even know we had and we weren’t spending time on the main floor of the house at all. So, we decided to drastically downsize our belongings and move into a single-story, one bedroom apartment instead.
And it is amazing. We are loving our new place so much! It’s like a breath of fresh air moving someplace nearby, but still completely different! Getting rid of so many old possessions that no longer serve you truly does make you feel so much lighter. It’s a hot mess right now, but keep an eye out for lots of home decor Instagrams over the next few weeks while we finish settling in!
As I’m sure you know if you’re on this blog, I own and run my photography business Liv in the Moment Photography full time. What you might not know is that for the last four years I’ve also had a full time career as a Project Manager for a training company based in Troy, MI. It was the best job I could have ever asked for. I had the privilege of managing some exciting big budget projects, tons of a travel, the best coworkers, and I was able to go to the Renaissance Center and Downtown Detroit for countless meetings. As much as I loved this job though, photography has always been the driving passion of my life.
With my client base growing and my love for photography getting stronger with every photo session and wedding, I knew it was time to give my project management job up to solely focus on my business. I have been looking forward to this moment for YEARS, and I am so excited to be able to spend even more time doing what I love the most: capturing memories, supporting my clients, and providing a top tier level of professional service.
If you read my April and May Roundups, you know that I was sick non-stop for about 8 weeks straight. Do not recommend. I finally started feeling more like myself at the beginning of June, and then it hit me. Strep throat. Twice. I got sick, then got better, then got it again for round two! I could not believe my luck, but thankfully antibiotics are a thing and they helped me kick that virus off fast! Hopefully, this current state of health will stick around and in the July Roundup I can stop mentioning how sick I am all the time. (And yes, the Honey Citrus Mint Tea is still a lifesaver).
June is basically my favorite month of the entire year, but maybe I’m biased because it’s my birthday month. This year, Matt had a business trip to Chicago the entire week of my birthday. Luckily I quit my day job the week before, so I was able to tag along with him! It was so nice and was exactly what I needed. While he was working during the day, I took some time to recharge and have some fun solo exploring the city. I got a pedicure, tried out allll the coffee shops (my fave: Goddess and the Baker), did some thrifting, and was able to get some editing done, too. Then, Matt had planned a fancy birthday dinner for me at the top of the John Hancock building. It was so beautiful up there! We sat by the window, ordered some drinks, ate some dessert, and I had the best time.
June 2019 was a wild ride! I’m looking forward to things slowing down a bit in July. Cross your fingers for me that I don’t get sick again!
