7 Ways to Be the Best Maid of Honor

If you’re reading this right now, then congrats! Chances are you either just chose your maid of honor or you just found out you’re going to be a maid of honor! Yaaaay! Either way, it’s about to get awesome. There’s so much to do that sometimes it can be overwhelming. So I wanted to give you all of my best tips and tricks with 7 Ways to Be the Best Maid of Honor.
Here are my 7 ways to be the best maid of honor ever!
1. It Ain’t Your Day
Didn’t think I was going to start off with some truth bombs, did ya?! As exciting as it to be chosen as a bride’s maid of honor (I mean the title is literally maid of HONOR), you may find yourself helping to remind other people of this important fact. In other words, this is her and the groom’s big day and they’re going to need your help. Bridal party and family drama can sometimes get in the way of things. When that happens it’s important to remember that you are there to advocate for and support your bestie. You can help diffuse chaotic situations without causing drama or taking things to personally. Try to keep things chill for the happy couple and take one for the team, if that’s needed.
2. Pack a Go Bag
You probably have a lengthy wedding to-do list, but I bet your bride’s is worse! Between vendors, guest lists, friends, family, etc. your bestie has SO much to remember and do leading up to the wedding. Pack a tiny go bag to bring on the big day. It will go a long way to showing her how much you love and care about her! Some things that are almost needed on a wedding day are:
- Ibuprofen
- Gum (or mints)
- Tape
- Mini scissors
- Tissues
- Nail clippers (broken nails are the WORST)
- Phone charger
- Tampons
- Sewing Kit
- Tide pen

3. Beware of Hanger
Wedding mornings are always a bit hectic. As a result, brides almost never have time to sit down and eat a whole meal or even remember to notice that they’re hungry. Bring her a plate while she gets her hair done. Pack some snacks for the limo ride to the ceremony. No one wants a hangry brides and you will get some major brownie points if you pack actual brownies. Especially white chocolate ones…gotta watch out for that dress!
4. Fix Her Dress
This dress wasn’t made for walkin’. If during the ceremony or photos her long veil or train has gone haywire, please fix it! I know it seems awkward to move during the ceremony. But trust me. Her dress all bunched up in the back is driving everyone crazy and she doesn’t even know it. Just lean forward and it adjust it real quick. I’ll be silently adoring you from behind my camera!
5. Get Her a Drink
And I don’t just mean a glass of champagne (although she’ll probably appreciate that, too!) . Wedding days are super long and can be emotionally intense. So, it’s important that your bride stays hydrated after crying all those happy tears! Don’t ask if she’s thirsty, just bring her a water or her favorite drink. It’s all those little things that make the biggest impact and show her how much you love her.
6. Talk to the Family
It’s really hard as a bride to bask in your happiness, enjoy your expensive AF party, and play hostess with the mostest all at once! Help your girl out by chatting with her grandma for a bit. Chances are you already know all of her siblings, parents, and cousins. Just walk up and say hey so she knows they’re taken care of for a bit. If you don’t have any clue what to say to them just talk about how gorgeous she is and then excuse yourself to grab another drink!
7. Shake Ya Booty
This is one of the best gifts that most brides don’t even realize until they’re looking at their wedding photos later. Imagine this: you just married your person. You’re on the dance floor. Your favorite song comes on. Then suddenly, all your besties are dancing around you and it’s suddenly the best moment EVER right out of a movie. Alternately, imagine being out on the dance floor all by yourself (ew). Bonus points: if you know her favorite song, ask the DJ to play it for her!
So, there you have it! Weddings can be expensive and being a maid of honor ain’t cheap! These 7 things are all totally free and can go such a long way to making your besties day beautiful and smooth.
