5 Reasons Why You Need Detroit Engagement Photos

As Taylor Swift herself once said, “I love my hometown as much as Motown”. Luckily for me, Motown is my hometown! Filled with world renowned museums like the DIA, home to the infamous Diego Rivera Industry Murals, and a cultural center for music, dancing, and food, Detroit is objectively one of the best cities in the U.S. It is also subjectively the best city ever in my book. So whether you’re a native Detroiter or whether you’re just visiting, here are 5 reasons why I recommend getting your engagement photos taken in downtown Detroit:

1. The Rooftops

There is nothing quite as romantic or magical than having your engagement photos taken on a Detroit rooftop. Historic, world famous architecture guarantees that any direction you face will feature an incredible view and an iconic building. The Detroit Whale Tower Mural is one of my all-time favorite spots for downtown backdrops.

2. The Murals

I have shot in numerous U.S. cities like Chicago, San Diego, Seattle, Phoenix, Atlanta and more. In my experience, none of these cities have murals that can beat the ones in Detroit. Every time I go downtown, I discover a new hidden mural and I fall in love with this city all over again! Below are some of favorites, but there are so many more that I have yet to discover!

 

3. The Vibe

Detroit has so much beautiful texture that makes every couple’s photos so individual and unique. When I have an adventurous, carefree couples I usually just take them on a walk downtown. They will be laughing and holding hands while I snap candid photos along the street. Every time these photos turn out so genuine, unique, and capture the essence of Detroit.

4. The Snack Scene

One of my favorite things about photographing downtown is the wide variety of local bars and coffee shops. Lookin’ good in photos stir up an appetite! I love that when shooting downtown I always have a list of places that not only look great in photos, but that always have yummy drinks and snacks. Some of my favorite spots are

Detroit is so stylish and tasty, you really can’t go wrong with aesthetics and snacks.

 

 

5. Belle Isle

Is there anywhere dreamier than Belle Isle? Whenever I shoot in this park, I feel like I’m going back in time to the golden days of early 20^th century Detroit. There is so much history, elegance, and personality here. The majority of my Detroit sessions end up being at Belle isle and I ain’t even mad bout it. Every time I come here I find a new perfect spot and every engagement session ends up so unique.

 

Soooo you’ve probably gathered by now that I am a teeeeensy bit biased towards Detroit.
